Project Overview

Ashely Christine came to me with the task of doing an illustration for her book cover. The brief was to use themes from the story to convey a vague feeling of emptiness and loss, while connecting the material world the main character grew up in, with the spaceship world she found her current physical body within.

The sun plays a huge part in the story, so we decided to make it a major, overpowering theme in the cover. The bright white sun is impossible to ignore. We added solar flares to connect the two worlds, and bring the character back down to the New Hampshire wilderness that she was raised in, the blue light of the outlined trees symbolize the journey between the two worlds, and connect both of them as the story progresses.

The promotional rollout to the book release included two digital billboard spots on the Sunset Strip in Los Angeles, and the other located in the heart of Times Square, NYC. Iron Dreamers held the #1 spot for new Young Adult releases on Amazon after going live.

I collaborated with Mango Publishing’s creative team on this project, which was all around a great experience.
